Bovenstaande afbeelding is van Christoph Brach. Hij is afgestudeerd aan de Design Academy Eindhoven en zijn werk is een mix van fotografie en design.
‘A Second Nature’ is onderdeel van een serie illustraties waarin het lichaam opgebouwd wordt met behulp van onderdelen die door de mens gemaakt zijn. Zelf zegt Brach daar het volgende over:
“Now technology merges into biology and science discovers the last secrets of existence, nature is no longer considered as the exclusive owner and producer of the human body. The more fantastic scientific disciplines are, the more complicated they usually seem. This creates a difficulty to communicate it to people outside the scientific sector. On the otherhand scientific results can be very stimulating to art. So why not use art and design as one possibility to bridge the growing gap between science and society? I guess that both disciplines can benefit form each other.”
Ik denk dat hij gelijk heeft en dat met name wetenschap gebaat is bij het goed communiceren van het nut ervan voor de samenleving. Het verbeelden van resultaten kan daarbij helpen.
